Architecture & Audio Engine

Native Low-Latency Audio DSP

48 kHz Sampling

Unlike Western twelve-tone equal temperament (12-TET), gamelan acoustics do not follow fixed logarithmic semitones. Ain E-Mbat was engineered from scratch on the native Android platform to accommodate traditional Javanese embat (the deliberate micro-tuning stretch unique to each gamelan ensemble).

01

48kHz Hardware Microphone Ingestion

Direct audio streaming via Android AudioRecord API with low-buffer latency for immediate transient detection upon physical hammer strike.

02

Autonomous On-Device DSP

Performs pitch detection and partial overtone analysis entirely in local device memory. Operates with zero network dependency in workshops or cultural pavilions.

03

Zero Telemetry & Absolute Privacy

Zero ads, zero trackers, and zero audio recordings transmitted off-device. Pure engineering built for craftsmen.

Acoustic Science

Slendro vs. Pelog Tonal Systems

Traditional Javanese gamelan employs two distinct, non-overlapping tuning paradigms. Ain E-Mbat includes dedicated algorithms for each system:

Laras Slendro (Pentatonic)

5 Tones / Octave

Divided into five approximately equal steps (~240 cents each). It lacks half-steps (semitones), creating an open, bright, and expansive acoustic resonance.

Ji (1)Ro (2)Lu (3)Ma (5)Nem (6)

Laras Pelog (Heptatonic)

7 Tones / Octave

Characterized by unequal intervals alternating between tight steps (~115-130 cents) and wide leaps (~270-285 cents), enabling expressive modal variations (Pathet).

1 (Ji)2 (Ro)3 (Lu)4 (Pat)5 (Ma)6 (Nem)7 (Pi)
What is "Embat"?

In Javanese musicology, embat describes the intentional pitch deviation that gives each gamelan set its unique spiritual personality and acoustic shimmer (ombak). Ain E-Mbat preserves this master tuning art.

About Anlian Coder

Ananda Apriliansyah Cahya Utama · Independent Software Engineer

I am an independent programmer based in Indonesia, specializing in native Android engineering and modern interactive web systems. My engineering practice focuses on crafting software that solves authentic, technically demanding challenges with clean code and minimal overhead.

The creation of Ain E-Mbat stemmed from a practical cultural dilemma: traditional Javanese gamelan instruments produce complex non-harmonic overtones and follow centuries-old tuning systems (embat) that generic Western chromatic tuners cannot evaluate. By combining digital signal processing with low-latency smartphone audio sampling, I built an accessible, offline application that assists gamelan craftsmen and musicians with accurate pitch preservation.

Whether developing native mobile architectures or building interactive browser tools, I adhere to a strict discipline: zero unnecessary telemetry, robust offline resilience, minimal CPU and battery footprint, and direct one-on-one communication with clients.

Acoustic & Sensor Precision

Expertise handling non-standard tuning systems, hardware audio buffer management, and real-time frequency calculations.
